About
Empowering the Future
Sha’alvim for Women (SFW) was established to provide a space where motivated young women could engage with Torah on a sophisticated, intellectual, and deeply personal level.
Our goal is to transform the “gap year” into a lifelong foundation. We believe that when a woman is empowered with the skills to learn independently, she becomes an architect of her own spiritual life and a leader within the Jewish community.
A Personalized Journey
Our educational philosophy centers on the “Independent Thinker.” We offer a balanced curriculum that honors both tradition and modern inquiry:
Intellectual Agency: Students “drive” their own schedules, choosing from a vast menu of courses in Tanach, Halacha, Talmud, and Jewish History.
Skills & Tools: We focus on providing the textual tools necessary to open any Sefer with confidence.
Heart & Ruach: Through small-group chaburot and inspiring Shabbatonim, we ensure that learning is a vibrant, soul-stirring experience.
A Sanctuary in the Heart of Jerusalem
Located in the beautiful Malcha neighborhood, SFW offers a unique “city-sanctuary” experience. Our campus provides a warm, communal environment that feels like a quiet retreat, yet sits within the vibrant heartbeat of Jerusalem.
Here, students have the safety and serenity needed to ask big questions and forge lifelong friendships, all while being minutes away from the spiritual and cultural landmarks of the Holy City.
With a dedicated faculty that opens their hearts and homes, SFW is your perfect home base for a year of true discovery.
It Happens in The Beit
At Sha’alvim for Women, the Beit Midrash is more than a room—it is the heart and soul of our campus. It is a vibrant sanctuary where intellectual curiosity meets personal growth, empowering students to take dynamic ownership of their Torah study.
Independent Exploration: Beyond structured classes, the Beit Midrash provides the freedom to delve into topics that ignite your passion. Here, you are encouraged to explore our expansive library of classic texts and hidden gems, cultivating a lifelong love for learning.
Collaborative Chavruta Learning: Guided by dedicated faculty, the Beit Midrash thrives on lively, collaborative energy. Our teachers are always present to facilitate chavruta partnerships, answer questions, and prompt meaningful discussion.
Skills for a Lifetime: The time spent in the Beit Midrash builds foundational tools—critical thinking, textual analysis, and independent research—that stay with our students long after their year in Jerusalem.
Special Programming
Inside the SFW Guest Speaker Program
Education at Sha’alvim for Women is an ongoing conversation. One of the highlights of our academic week occurs every Wednesday evening, when renowned scholars, inspirational Rebbetzins, and global Jewish personalities converge on our Jerusalem campus.
These sessions aren’t standard lectures—they are interactive, thought-provoking explorations into the depth and breadth of Torah. From weekly Wednesday evening sessions to immersive Yemei Iyun centered around the Jewish calendar, our students are constantly challenged to engage with fresh perspectives and ask deep questions.
It’s just one of the many ways SFW transforms Torah study from a classroom requirement into a lifelong, soul-stirring pursuit.

We celebrate the milestones of the State of Israel with communal tefillah and immersive trips. Our goal is to provide the spiritual and intellectual foundation needed for a life of Avodat Hashem in both the university setting and beyond.
What kind of mentorship can I expect from the Faculty?
At SFW, faculty members are more than just teachers—they are mentors who are deeply invested in your personal journey. With many staff members living nearby or on campus, their homes are always open for a late-night talk, a chabura, or emotional support. These relationships form the backbone of the SFW experience and often last a lifetime.
